The PSI-10 Sensor generates a cumulative response to all detectable pollutants present. This technique lends itself to many monitoring applications where pollutant mixing occurs or unknown pollutants may exist. These sensors connect to the DLC Load Controller or can be ordered with 0-5VDC outputs for connection to Building Management Systems. The VOC sensors operate on 12VDC which can be supplied from the DLC load controller or with our oprional 12VDC power supply.
DESCRIPTION:
The PSI-10 Sensor with its associated variable speed load controllers provides automatic "on demand" operation of air cleaning, purifying and ventilating systems - proportional to concentrations of over 100 Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs). When the total pollutant concentration of an environment exceeds a preset level of the PSI-10 sensor, a signal is transmitted to the controller, thus enabling automatic variable speed control to AC motors from less than 1/4 HP to 1 HP. As simply as a thermostat regulates an indoor environment according to temperature, the PSI-10 sensor/ controller regulates according to pollution.
APPLICATIONS:
- Automatic, variable speed control of air cleaners
- Automatically modulate ozone generator output
- Automatically control dampers, VAVs, ERVs
- Remote sensing/control of VOCs with Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems
- Room or building air monitoring
- Intake supply and exhaust air monitoring/control
- Indicator for adsorption media breakthrough and maintenance interval requirements
- Variable speed of AC motors
FEATURES:
- Long-life multi-gas sensing element
- Micro-processor based
- No re-calibration required
- Solid State design
- Multiple configurations and outputs
- Wall and duct-mounted sensors
- Custom and OEM models available
- Easy to install, operate and maintain
RESULTS:
- Ensure compliance
- Eliminate operating errors
- Reduce liability and health risks
- Optimize operating efficiency
- Enhance equipment value
- Energy efficient/lower operating costs
- Prolong operating and filter life
- Maintain a healthy environment with improved Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
The PSI-10 datalog option provides a 0-5 VDC analog signal proportional to Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOCs). The sensor output responds to instantaneous changes in air quality; an increase in voltage indicates an increase in TVOC levels. By connecting a datalogging device and tracking output over a period of time, a baseline for a particular environment can be found. If pollutants are introduced, the time and relative severity of the occurrence will be indicated as a rise in signal above the baseline. These anomalies can then be traced to potential pollution sources that were present at the time. Without the DL option, the sensors provide a TTL output designed to be connected to the DLC load controller or other TTL Compatible controller.

OPERATIONS:
- Plug the black connector from the wall adapter into the 5 pin header located on the back of the PSI-10.
- Plug the phono plug into a voltage recording device.
- Power is automatically supplied by plugging the wall adapter into a 120 VAC outlet.
The sensor powers up in "auto" mode. The green Ready light will flash for three minutes indicating sensor warm-up. Thirty minutes should be allowed for full stabilization. It is recommended that the sensor be left on even when not in use to assure short stabilizing times. After the three minute warm-up the sensor switches to the full Auto mode and the Ready light stays "on".
When a pollutant is detected, the Ready light goes out and the Signal light comes "on" along with the Low, Med or High indicator to display the relative level from the baseline. The Auto, Manual and Stop buttons are used for manual control of an air cleaner when the PSI-I0 is used with a PSI load controller. The sensitivity adjustment on the back of the sensor controls the minimum level required for the Low indicator to come on in the presence of a pollutant. The default setting is High. The buttons and sensitivity have no effect on the sensor voltage output to the datalogger.
- The PSI-I0 is calibrated in clean air at 72 degrees F and 25% RH.
- The baseline voltage is set to 800 mVDC. Maximum output is 5.0 VDC
- The baseline will vary with changes in temperature and humidity. Both have the effect of increasing the sensor voltage approximately 5mV per degree F or % change in humidity.
